Palmerston have announced their annual doubles competition. This year the schedule is
10th September: Men’s Doubles / Ladies Doubles
17th September: Mixed Doubles
The tournaments are open to leagve players aged 16 and over. The idea is to provide a fun and competitive days tennis. To do this a round robin group format is used with shortened matches. This is followed by a knockout stage.
The Tournament is scheduled to start at 11am and should finish by 5, weather permitting. Entry is £10 per couple and this includes a buffet lunch.

Elite Sports and Education Academy are offering a £1000 scholarship programme for elite performers in a range of sports who want to combine their training with Level 3 sports qualifications.
The course is a two year OCR Extended Diploma in Sport which is the equivalent to 3 A-Levels and the natural pathway to university
A £1000 bursary over the two years to be used for coaching and training.

The first day of Wimbledon seems a good opportunity to announce our 70th Anniversary. For the occasion, Marc Black has produced a professional quality publicity graphic which will be used with other material to help promote the Group and its Clubs.
The graphic includes all Clubs participating in the Group today as well as many from yesteryear. There are a few names here which should jog a few memories.

The 2017 Parks Tennis Tournament takes place on the new dates of 9th – 14th July on the new outdoor courts at Liverpool Tennis Centre. All adults, junior and veteran players are invited to compete in singles and doubles events against players from across the Merseyside area.
All entries need to be made on an offcial entry form (click here) or on the LTA website at https://www3.lta.org.uk/Competitions/Competition/?ctn=1-9LI5F2S before the deadline of Monday 3rd July. There are no scheduled fixtures in the Liverpool & District Group League during the tournament.

I’m sure you are aware of the Liverpool Hope International Tennis Tournament, held at Liverpool Cricket Club.
I’d like to draw your attention to a couple of things.
1. Currently, there is a special offer, 50% off the corporate hospitality tickets for the Saturday and Sunday.

If you would like the chance to play against WTA or ATP Tour players, the Qualifying Draw for the 2017 Liverpool Hope International Tennis Tournament is your chance!
The event takes place Saturday 10th and Sunday 11th June outdoors at Liverpool Tennis Centre with the finals being played on Centre Court at Liverpool Cricket Club on Wednesday 14th June.
The winner of the Qualifying Finals will then play in the main draw of the Liverpool International, which takes place from 15-18th June on the grass-courts at Liverpool Cricket Club. Please note, the Qualifying is an LTA Grade 4 Men’s and Women’s Singles.

A short reminder to Clubs that the annual Fixtures meeting will be held at 8pm February 9th at Bohemians. This follows our informal policy of alternating Group meetings between north and south venues.
The 2017 fixtures will be circulated at the meeting and the Liverpool and District Tennis Steering Group. will give an update of progress following Tony McKee’s presentation at our AGM.
Thank you for your Club’s feedback at the AGM. The points raised have been discussed in Committee and we will report at the meeting.
