Now that we are approaching the end of the 2016 league season it’s time to remind you all that our annual presentation night will take place on Friday 23rd September 2016. It will be held once again at the West Lancashire Golf Club.
Pauline should have contacted all clubs with ticket information but if you haven’t received any correspondence then please get in touch with us!
Congratulations to Matthew Gibson and Beth Taylor who have won the 2016 Chavasse Cup after securing a two set win over last year’s finalists Ian Malabar and Tia Morris of East Wavertree. The final was scheduled to be played as the concluding event on the final Sunday of The Liverpool Hope International Tennis Tournament at Liverpool Cricket Club. Unfortunately the bad weather closed in just before the pairs were due to take their place on the main show court and the fixture had to be rearranged for the following weekend.
Fortunately Chris Evans was able to make the following weekend and personally present the Chavasse Cup and runners up trophies. As many will know, Chris was the instigator of the Tournament in memory of Noel Chavasse, a prominent member of Liverpool Cricket Club who was awarded the Victoria Cross twice for his service in the First World War. Once again we have to thank Chris and all at Liverpool Cricket Club and Northern Vision for generously involving the Liverpool Group in the tournament.
Well done to all Clubs that supported this event and worked with Peter Mattocks to get the fixtures played in the run up to the final. Peter puts a lot of effort into the organisation of the Cup and we are hoping that the competition will go from strength to strength.
The Chavasse Cup is now at the Quarter Final stage of the Tournament after some hard fought matches. Thingwall managed to secure their place with a 4-6 7-5 10-6 victory over Formby and will now play Blundellsands for a place in the Semis.
Mersey Bowmen also needed a Championship tiebreak to overcome Widnes and will now play last years finalists East Wavertree.
In the other Quarters, Eccleston Park will play either Liverpool Cricket Club or David Lloyld Knowsley with Cressington to play either Rainford or Carlton.
The Final is scheduled to be played on the grass showcourt at Liverpool Cricket Club during the International.
Entries are now open for the Qualifying Draw for the 2016 Liverpool Hope University International Tennis Tournament. This is your chance to play in the largest tennis exhibition tournament in Europe on the grass courts at Liverpool Cricket Club against ATP or WTA players.
The Qualifying Draw takes place on 11-12th June at Liverpool Tennis Centre with the finals taking place on 15th June on the Centre Court at Liverpool Cricket Club with the winners progressing to the Main Draw of the tournament.
For the first time, the Qualifying has been sanctioned as an LTA Grade 4 and will attract Men’s and Women’s LTA Ranking points.
The Liverpool & District Tennis Group’s Junior League will once again take place as one-day events on the indoor courts at Liverpool Tennis Centre. There are two age-groups this year for 14 & Under and 18 & Under players and all clubs and coaches are invited to enter a team of 4 players.
The events will take place at Liverpool Tennis Centre in Wavertree on Sunday 5th June (14 & Under’s) and Sunday 3rd July (18 & Under’s). All information is contained in the official entry form but please get in touch if you require any further information.
First tables of the season have been published. As can be seen by the tables there are quite a few results missing, please get your cards in as quickly as possible and if matches have to be rearranged please do that as quickly as possible as well to prevent any backlogs towards the end of the season.
