Winter Tennis Opportunity

BEAT THE COLD, DARK and RAIN! Liverpool Tennis Foundation COMMUNITY TENNIS EVENING at David Lloyd Speke every Sunday at 7pm. Come and enjoy a great evening of Tennis involving drills, music and organised social play. Everyone is welcome from any club and there’s no membership requirement. Cost is just £10 per head. No need to book – just tum up!

Palmerston win Fairlawn

Mersey Bowmen hosted Palmerston on a gorgeous day for tennis yesterday in Sefton Park.

Both teams were missing key players but it was the away team who came out on top winning 6-2.

Congratulations to both teams and it was great to see good support for both teams.

Palmerston Doubles

Palmerston have announced their annual doubles competition. This year the schedule is

10th September: Men’s Doubles / Ladies Doubles

17th September: Mixed Doubles

The  tournaments are open to leagve players aged 16 and over.  The idea is to provide a fun and competitive days tennis. To do this a round robin group format is used with shortened matches.  This is followed by a knockout stage.

The Tournament is scheduled to start at 11am and should finish by 5, weather permitting. Entry is £10 per couple and this includes a buffet lunch.

Our tournaments are 2 of the 5 senior open tournaments left in Liverpool.  We aim to continue running them every year

Congratulations to Mersey Bowmen and Palmerston who will play in the Fairlawn final.

Could Clubs please now check their first round Brockbank opponents and venue.The top named club will be at home in round 1 with ties to be played on Tuesday 8th of August.

LTA Subsidised Level 1 & 2 Coaching Course Information & Dates

LIVERPOOL TENNIS FOUNDATION in association with IMPACT TENNIS LTA LEVEL 1 and LEVEL 2 Courses winter 2017/18 Venue: David Lloyd Club Speke

Here’s your chance to get qualified and to play a key role in helping grow the game in your club!

• We want to upskill the local Tennis workforce and increase the amount of coaching opportunities and quality of sessions. There is the chance to complete both the LTA Level 1 and Level 2 in time for next season!
• In the first instance please register your interest by e mailing Course Tutor David Simms on tenniscollege@aol.com – you can also reserve a place on the course. You can call David on 07900 955155 for more information.
• We will then e mail you a link to book together with an application form to access a 50% LTA local subsidy payable on completion and conditional on undertaking agreed volunteering hours at your club. This is not guaranteed but aaardred on a case by case basis. This is awarded on a case by case basis but it should be possible to get a decision in advance of booking the course if you apply as soon as possible.
• You will need to identify a Coach Mentor (we can help if needed) who should be an LTA Licensed Coach.

Frequently asked questions for level 1
What is the minimum age for this course?
16 on day 1
Do I need to be a good tennis player?
No, the course is about communication, organisation and enthusiasm for working with young children. We also give plenty of information on how to play the game and loads of practise!
Do I need an LTA CRB/DBS?
No, you will receive a letter of safe deployment without DBS on your confirmation email. This needs to be signed by your mentor and brought on day 1 of the course
How much does it cost?
£225 but you can apply to get upto 50% reimbursed on completion through a local LTA subsidy. We will e mail you an application form for this – you will need to undertake volunteer hours at your club /venue in return.
What does the course qualify you to do?
On successful completion, you are qualified to assist a licensed coach (if you wish to work alone or in schools you will also need to complete level 2]

What is the assessment process?
Written portfolio of evidence, which includes 3 hours work experience with mentor at mini red Tennis. A 15 minute practical assessment (with 15 minute practice on day 2)

What is the minimum age for this course?
16 on day 1
Do I have to have done Level 1 to do Level 2/.
Yes, with the following exceptions:
• You have a BEd specialising in PE degree.
• You have a level 2 in another sport through 1st 4 Sport.

Do I need to be a good tennis player?
Same skills as Level 1, however you need to be able to demonstrate basic shots
Do I need an LTA CRB/DBS and First Aid Certificate?
Yes, there are two requirements:
• You must have an ENHANCED DBS AND BARRED LIST CHECK less than one year old
• You must have a First Aid Certificate with the wording ‘Emergency First Aid at Work’

How do I get a DBS?
On the LTA website, the application can be done online but you still have to visit a ‘checking centre’ with proof of identity. This will take a minimum of 6 days. You should also allow 6 weeks for the check to be carried out. Therefore you should apply for this no later than Nov 1st

How much does it cost?
£395 but you can apply to get upto 50% reimbursed on completion through a local LTA subsidy. We will e mail you an application form for this – you will need to undertake volunteer hours at your Club /Venue in return.
What does the course qualify you to do?
To work independently with groups of beginners and in schools within the programme of a Licensed Coach. You can also lead LTA Courses including Tennis for Kids and Tennis Tuesdays.

What is the assessment process?
Online Evidence Portfolio, which includes 8 hours work experience with mentor at mini-orange/green tennis and adult beginners. A 25 minute on court assessment, with (25 minute practice on day 4).

What if I fail the on court assessment?
You have two years and two re-assessments to complete the course
